Everybody has a passion. For Monty Murphy, it is art. Murphy struggled for years to pursue a dream of turning his love for art into a career.
In only his second year of art school, Monty was forced to drop out due to unforeseen family circumstances. He then went on to work as an insurance agent for over 20 years before starting his own business. Now, Murphy owns Paint the Town located in Columbia, Missouri where he spends his time sharing his love for painting with others.
Every morning Monty Murphy wakes up and gets ready for work like many others on a normal day, but for Monty work isn’t sitting in the office making calls or filing papers.
Monty attended Central Missouri University in Warrensburg, Missouri to study art, but after two years was forced to drop out due to family matters. Monty began to work to help support his family, and became an insurance sales agent at a company where he remained for 20 years.
After saving enough money to finally start his own business, Monty decided to put his skills and passion for art to use.
Monty’s business is called Paint the Town, it is an art gallery with a fun, and boozy twist.
Paint the Town offers classes, parties, and other fun events where people can come and paint while also enjoying the full bar located at the back of the gallery.
Monday, September 18th was “Paint Yo’ Pet Night” which Monty described as “One of the gallery’s biggest events.”
Monty even gets to take his business and passion on the road by scheduling events all over Missouri. Often times, he and his team can be found at the Lake of the Ozarks.
Because of Monty’s hard work and dedication to his passion, his career is something of his own, and it is something that he loves.
